What is a health coach?
For many people, the idea of being healthy is combining regular exercise, eating a diet rich in fruits and vegetables and getting enough sleep. Now while I don’t disagree with this, if we’re honest we both know that life generally isn’t that straightforward…..For many of us our days can be filled with important meetings, rushing around and eating on the run.
With access to health + wellness information available 24/7 there is a plethora of information out there on how to ‘eat clean’ get a rockin six pack and loose those last 5kg. But even with all this information at our finger tips, it seems many of us are just down right confused when it comes to our health.
So what does a health + wellness coach do?
As a health + wellness coach, I work with my clients (generally on a one-to-one basis) to help them feel their best through food and lifestyle changes. My approach to creating a healthy life is a holistic one, and it’s important that I meet my clients where they’re at so we create healthy habits that stick.
I truly believe that a healthy life is a result of what we do everyday, not what we do some days.
My job as a health + wellness coach is not to give out a long list of do’s and don’ts, or shame clients because they ate a burger and chips over the weekend (heck I’d put myself out of a job if I did) but rather to guide you to make small and sustainable changes both on and off your plate.
As we work together, I give you the tools to navigate through your life without having to sacrifice the things that you love.
You see, health isn’t just about what we put into our mouths. To truly feel healthy and happy, we need to address several areas of our lives and make sure they’re in balance. Trust me, all the green smoothies in the world won’t undo the damage of working 50+ hours a week in a high pressure corporate role that you hate.
A healthy and nourished life needs to consider a whole host of things outside of diet and exercise, things like our relationships, our career, our spiritual practice or connection with something bigger than ourselves. It’s only when we address and work on ALL of these areas that we achieve true health.
SO WHAT DON’T I DO AS A HEALTH COACH?
I am not a nutritionist, dietician or doctor. During our sessions I will never prescribe you meditation or try to heal any form of disease or long-term illness.
As much as I personally look for natural alternatives when it comes to my health and the health of my family, I believe there is a place for professional intervention and will always advise this to my clients.
HOW DO I KNOW IF A HEALTH COACH IS RIGHT FOR ME?
Think about this. You want to get fit, you hire a personal trainer. You join a football team and you’re led by a coach. You want to excel your career, you invest in an executive coach.
You see, a health coach is simply there to guide you around your health. Your personal go-to guide to help you make positive change and hold you accountable for your actions.
We all get a bit lost when it comes to what it means to be ‘healthy’. You should be eating 3 square meals a day/ 5-6 smaller meals to boost your metabolism. Low fat products are healthy/ low fat products are full of sugar. Dairy is an excellent source of calcium/ dairy is best avoided it’s mucous forming and hard to digest.
A health coach will guide you through the maze of confusion. I’ll hold your hand and help you to figure out what’s right for you and your body.
If you’re feeling like you need some support, someone to hold you accountable and guide you to living your happiest and healthiest life, read more about my programs HERE or send me an email and we can book in your free session to see if I’m the right coach for you.
