My top five tips to healthy eating on a budget

One of the most common complaints I hear when it comes to healthy eating, is that its ‘too expensive’….Whilst I could argue against this until the grass fed cows come home, I can also see my clients point when Woolies promote their latest ‘special’ on ready made meals that feed a family for $9.99. So today I want to share my top tips for healthy eating on a budget.

When it comes to healthy eating, I like to look at it as a long term investment in your health and wellbeing. Many times I have had this conversation with Mat, when he gawks at the price of my latest trip to the health food store… which I reply, ‘well how much did that round of beers cost you last night at the pub’?

You see, when it comes to your health, we simply cannot put a price on it.

So often we spend our money willy nilly on clothes, takeaway dinners, drinks after work, our morning coffee…If we were to simply take some time each week to think about our meals and get organised we can all eat healthy nutritious food that doesn’t need to cost us our whole pay packet.

So what are my key tips for healthy eating on a budget…..

What to pack in your hospital bag for labour

When it comes to preparing for childbirth for many first time mums (myself absolutely included) at around 36 weeks we start thinking about what we need to pack in our hospital bag for labour (our partners tend to think about what they need when you actually go into labour!)

In the lead up to giving birth, I think I trawled through 20+ websites looking at every tip and trick when it came to getting organised, so let me gift you this time back (read: go and have a nap!) as I share a health coaches guide for your absolute ESSENTIALS when it comes to packing your hospital bag for labour.

A Health Coaches journey through pregnancy

As I sit writing this post, I feel a sense of calm….the morning sun beaming on my face, herbal tea in hand, Mat in bed and a little cocoabean (the babe) wriggling around inside. I’m 38.5 weeks pregnant and have just started maternity leave. As we wait for bubs arrival, I thought I’d share some of my journey around how I’ve nourished myself throughout pregnancy.

As a Health Coach, I am incredibly fortunate that I have been able to draw on the knowledge from my studies to guide how I nourish my mind, body and soul. Over the past 9 months, I’ve taken a holistic approach to wellness and have focused not just on my diet, but my spiritual practice and movement. This balance has been essential in the last weeks of pregnancy as I manifest a calm and empowered birth….

So what has this looked like over the past 9 months?READ MORE

How to improve your gut health

For as long as I can remember I have been fascinated with digestion and gut health….what people put into their bodies, how it’s processed,  how it comes out, how often they go and just how easy it can be to throw off this delicate balance within the ecosystem that is our body!

Unfortunately for so many of us tummy troubles are a daily struggle. A mixture of stress, poor diet, food allergies and intolerance or simply eating too quickly can often be the cause of bloating, constipation and discomfort on a daily basis.READ MORE

DIY coffee body scrub

Looking for a deliciously nourishing homemade body scrub? Then my coconut-coffee scrub will leave your skin feeling soft, supple and smelling amazing!

I’m not sure about you, but as soon as the weather starts to turn cooler, something almost instantly happens to my skin….I start to resemble a crocodile….yep I’ve caught a glimpse of my bare legs at work and they are getting dry…. So in an effort to keep that eternal summer suppleness and soft dewy skin I went about creating my own body scrub which not only buffs away the dry patches but also leaves your skin feeling silky smooth and moisturised!READ MORE

Why I’m not setting New Year’s resolutions….

As we reach the January half-way point, I always wonder how many of us out there are still on track to achieving our goals? You know the resolutions, the intentions, the promises, the gym memberships, the detoxes…..

Sadly I’ve done all of these before, setting goals, joining gyms, embarking on ridiculous detoxes…and all with similarly disappointing results….

That was until last year year, when I decided to rebel against the check lists, and the overwhelming sense of having to ‘achieve’ and simply focused on how I wanted to FEEL….

And by that I’m talking about moment to moment FEELING…365 days of the year!READ MORE

It’s time to create space…

For as long as I can remember I’ve been interested in health and wellness… what people eat, how to move your body, the newest health craze, exercise or ‘superfoods’..chances are I’ve either read about it, bought it or it has found its way into my weekly menu…READ MORE

My four favourite herbal teas

The rain this weekend has been a welcome change in Sydney, and it seems many of us have embraced the change in weather by swapping our superfood smoothies for a nice warming cup of tea!

Now whether you’re a self confessed tea addict, or you simply get sucked in to buying a new box of tea each time a different flavour hits the shelves…..(I’m more of the impulse tea buyer personally). There is something very nourishing about tea…and the ritual of pouring a cup, sitting down with a good book, magazine or movie and getting cosy and comfy….

But there is so much more to tea than the comfort factor….for centuries herbal tea has been known for its medicinal properties….and depending on the type of tea you choose, there are a whole host of general benefits that can support you on your nourishing journey….from promoting energy and wellness to supporting the digestive and nervous systems…..with the right cup, you can literally sip yourself to health….READ MORE
